Selling gold is arithmetic, and you are entitled to see it done. Your item is weighed on a certified scale, tested for karat, and priced against the day’s market — then the number is explained before you agree to anything. If the explanation does not make sense, do not sign.
Scrap gold and wearable gold are different markets. A heavy chain with broken links is a melt number; the same weight in a signed piece with real demand may be worth more than its metal. Ask which category your piece falls into, and ask for the reasoning.
Coins and bullion are priced on metal content and, where relevant, collector premium. Bring them as they are — cleaning a coin usually reduces its value rather than raising it.
Call during shop hours or come in with the item. Either way you get a number at the counter, in front of you, with the reasoning attached to it.
